Hooligans Blank Local Rival

The Midwest Hooligans were up against a tough opponent last Friday, under the lights at EVSC soccer fields. Bowling Green FC came in high on confidence with a huge 18-0 win over Coptic Nashville City. The Hooligans needed to start quickly to make sure the game was in their favor. Domenico Colletta did just that in the 10 minute when he ended on a pass from Brody Deweese and Juan Zamarripa and slid it past the BGFC goalkeeper! This was just the start the Hooligans needed to get the momentum they needed. Just 15 minutes later Carlos Mayser got on the end of a pass from Logan Ball and went right by the BGFC keeper and rolled in the goal. The Hooligans took this 2-0 lead to the half. The Hooligans had to survive an onslaught of BGFC attacks in the second half but the defense stood strong led by Tony Reilly. They were able to keep BGFC out of the Hooligan goal. Wathel was able to seal the game away for the Hooligans in the 86’ minute when he jumped on a blunder by the BGFC goalkeeper. Coach Andy Donohoe saw the team get its 3rd win under his command and it was a big one, “It was an outstanding display by the team against very good opposition. Everything we did was with the collective in mind” Said Donohoe. He continued “Each of the goals and goal scoring opportunities were made on the back and in the lungs of the other teammates” Tony Reilly had this to add “Friday night’s result was a great result for us as a team, not only for the 3 points but also showing how far we have come as a team. Beating a tough Bowling Green side that went to regionals last year is a huge stepping stone for us.” He also said “The boys dug deep from the first minute to the last and it was a great game all around.” The Hooligans end their home stand this weekend with a long weekend of soccer. Friday night they look to play Pumas Premier who was the very first opponent of the season where they drew 2-2. Then on Sunday they play Deportivo MiJaslico who they are yet to face this season. Friday is an 8pm kickoff and Sunday is at 1pm.
