Hooligans Make History with Home Opener!

The Hooligans had their first ever home game this past Sunday evening vs Coptic Nashville City. Both teams were looking to turn their season around with a win! No better place than at home to get the first win of the season.

The Hooligans started strong with a few chances to get on the board early but just could not find the way past the Coptic defense and goalkeeper. Even when the ref called a PK the odds were not in the favor of the Hooligans and the PK call was overturned and the Hooligans kept searching for the first goal.

With a little over 10 minutes left in the first half, Hooligans Forward Francisco Rodriguez picked the pocket of the Coptic player and was in on goal! He slid it into the bottom corner to open the scoring for the Hooligans. They never looked back.

To start the second half Midfield Domenico “CJ” Colletta had a free kick that went right under the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 for the Hooligans. This was short lived as Coptic got a goal back on a well-placed shot into the top corner of the goal. 2-1 with 30 minutes to go.

Coach Andy Donohue made a few changes to the lineup and these changes really raised the level for the Hooligans. Seeing Subs Daniel Gott and Patrick Donnell link up for the 3rd and final goal of the game. “As a team I feel like we played as a unit, when subs were made the intensity level did not drop” said Patrick Donnell the goal scorer. “Across the board I feel like as a team we accomplished what we set out to do” Donnell continued. He also told us he wanted to give Daniel Gott a shout out for setting up his goal.

Coach Donohue had this to say about the game, “We are happy to get the 3 points. It was a game that needed great patience in creating and finishing off those opportunities. We created a lot of opportunities particularly in the second half. We’ll take the positives from the game and build on it for the next game.”

The Hooligans had a great turn out for their first home game. “The atmosphere was awesome and the fans stayed engaged in the game” said Donnell. The Hooligans are on the road this week vs Elizabethtown Ignite Saturday May 7th at 6pm Eastern Time. The next home game is May 15th at 6pm.
